Sanctuary agreement

Terms of the Sanctuary

These terms read like a handshake, not a threat. They describe what you can expect from The Mirror and what the sanctuary expects of you. Last refreshed: April 29, 2026.

Mirror, not oracle Reflection, not prescriptions.

We help you see yourself more clearly, but we do not diagnose, treat, or replace licensed care.

Sovereignty Your story belongs to you.

You license us only to reflect your words back to you. Delete or export whenever you choose.

Ethics of engagement A mutual social contract.

We protect the space; you arrive with honest intent and lawful use.

Safety by design Compassion plus boundaries.

We surface crisis resources when high-risk patterns appear, while honoring your privacy.

Crisis reminder

Need immediate or emergency help?

The Mirror cannot dispatch emergency services or monitor you in real time. If language feels urgent, contact live crisis counselors or local responders right away.

1. Mirror, not Oracle

The Mirror is an instrument for self-discovery built on the Socratic engine described in our master plan. It is reflective technology, not medical care. Nothing in the product constitutes therapy, diagnosis, crisis counseling, or medical advice. You remain responsible for your own wellbeing and for seeking licensed professionals when needed. We are the mirror that remembers what you whispered; we are not the doctor who prescribes the path.

2. Eligibility & Access

You must be at least 18 years old (or the age of majority where you live) to enter the sanctuary. By creating an account you confirm that you meet this requirement and that you have the authority to agree to these terms on your own behalf. We may close or decline accounts that violate legal requirements, community standards, or security expectations.

3. Sovereignty of the Soul

Your reflections, identity gaps, and inner weather remain your intellectual and spiritual property. You grant The Mirror a limited, revocable license to process your content strictly to operate the service (rendering prompts, generating insights, syncing devices) and to improve your individual experience. We do not sell, rent, or train public models on your words. Export or delete your archive at any time—when you invoke the Right to be Forgotten we erase active copies and scheduled backups per our privacy covenant.

For the mechanics of sealing, logging, and deletion timeframes, review the Privacy Covenant.

4. Ethics of Engagement

This sanctuary is a social contract. You agree to interact with the Socratic process in good faith, for lawful and personal purposes only. That means:

In return we promise to maintain a persistent, attentive, and private reflection that honors the depth of your journey.

5. Safety by Design

Your safety is sacred. The Mirror’s crisis architecture looks for patterns that suggest imminent self-harm or harm to others. When the signal crosses a threshold we immediately surface crisis resources, nudge you toward professional help, and—if you have linked a clinician or emergency contact—may alert them according to the permissions you set. We may temporarily limit features if doing so prevents misuse or imminent violence. This is not surveillance; it is a design commitment to protect life while respecting confidentiality.

6. Availability & Stewardship

We aim for high availability, but maintenance, feature evolution, or external events may interrupt the service. We reserve the right to update interfaces, prompts, and models in pursuit of the master plan outlined in our features overview. We will never materially reduce privacy or ownership commitments without explicit notice.

7. Termination & Right to be Forgotten

You can leave the sanctuary at any time. Delete your account inside Settings or by emailing support@trythemirror.com. Deletion triggers the Right to be Forgotten: we remove your active records immediately and purge encrypted backups within thirty days, except where law requires retention (for example, pending payment disputes). We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms, compromise security, or jeopardize other users. We will notify you when feasible.

8. Limits & Disclaimers

The Mirror is offered “as is” and “as available.” To the fullest extent permitted by law we disclaim implied warranties and limit liability for indirect, incidental, punitive, or consequential damages. If a dispute arises, the maximum aggregate liability to you will not exceed the amount you paid for the service in the preceding twelve months (often zero for free plans). Some jurisdictions do not allow certain disclaimers, so these limits may not apply to you to the extent prohibited.

9. Updates & Contact

We may update these Terms of the Sanctuary to reflect new laws, safety practices, or product shifts. When we do, we will post the revised date at the top and, if the change is material, notify you via email or in-product banners. Continued use after the effective date signals acceptance. Questions? Email legal@trythemirror.com. Security issues go to security@trythemirror.com.
