A private AI chat that asks Socratic questions rather than giving advice, plus a journal that builds itself from those conversations.
For therapists and clinicians
A HIPAA-Aligned AI Journaling App You Can Recommend to Clients
The Mirror is a private AI chat and journal your clients can use between sessions. It is free for them, it does not replace your work together, and nothing reaches you unless a client chooses to share it.
If you want the formal paperwork before recommending it, we can put a Business Associate Agreement in front of you on request.
- Free for clients, on the web and iPhone.
- Encrypted entries the client owns, not you.
- A Business Associate Agreement available on request.
No ads, and nothing about your client is sold.
Crisis reminder
Need immediate or emergency help?
The Mirror cannot dispatch emergency services or monitor you in real time. If language feels urgent, contact live crisis counselors or local responders right away.
Plain terms
What is a HIPAA-aligned AI journaling app?
We use the word "aligned" on purpose. There is no such thing as HIPAA certification, and we are not going to tell a room full of clinicians otherwise. What we can tell you is what is actually in place.
Encryption
Entries are encrypted
Client entries are encrypted in transit and at rest. The keys and the content are kept apart, so raw storage access alone does not expose anything readable.
Access control
Access is restricted and logged
Only the client can read their own entries by default. Internal access is limited and logged, and we run HIPAA-aligned audits of that posture on an ongoing basis.
Paperwork
A BAA is available on request
If your practice needs a signed Business Associate Agreement before you recommend a tool to clients, you can request one at the BAA request page and we will send it for review.
Between appointments
How your clients would use it between sessions
The gap between sessions is where a lot of a client's real thinking happens, usually with no record of it. The Mirror gives that thinking a private place to land.
A place to think out loud
A client can open the app after a hard conversation, a difficult night, or a moment they want to remember, and talk it through in their own words. The Mirror asks the next honest question instead of offering advice.
The client owns the record
Whatever gets written stays with the client. It is not a shared chart, not a portal you are logged into, and not something that syncs to your practice by default.
The honest part
What you would and would not see
This is the part we would rather say plainly than let you assume. It is also, we think, the reason clinicians are comfortable recommending it.
What you would not see
By default, you get nothing. There is no clinician dashboard, no login for you, no notification when a client writes an entry, no monitoring, and no alerts sent to you about what a client says in the app.
What you would see
Only what the client chooses to bring you. If they want to, a client can export a PDF summary of their own entries and hand it to you at your next session. Nothing leaves the app unless they take that step.
Where this stops
It does not replace the therapeutic relationship
The Mirror is a journaling and reflection tool, not a clinician, and not a substitute for the work you do together in the room.
No diagnosis, no triage
It does not diagnose, treat, or triage a client, and it does not monitor for crisis. If a client is in crisis, they need a human, and our crisis resources page lists that support directly.
A supplement, not a stand-in
What it can do is give a client a private place to keep thinking between the appointments you already have with them, so more of the raw material reaches the room instead of getting lost in the week.
For the whole practice
Bringing this to your practice or clinic
This page covers recommending The Mirror to individual clients. If you are looking at this for a group practice, a clinic, or a larger care team, there is a separate organisational offering.
For clinics
See the clinics page for how practices roll The Mirror out across a client list, including BAA handling at the organisation level.
For partners
See the partners page if you are exploring a broader relationship with medical directors or integrated care teams.
Before you recommend it
Get the paperwork, then decide.
