Frequently asked questions
What is The Mirror?
The Mirror is a free, private AI chat and journaling app for self-reflection. You think out loud in plain language, and it asks gentle Socratic questions that help you notice your own patterns: what you keep returning to, what you avoid, and how your mood moves over weeks. It remembers your story between sessions, and your entries stay yours.
What is a Mirror chat?
A Mirror chat is a private conversation with an AI that reflects your thinking back to you instead of handing you advice. It asks the next honest question rather than telling you what to do, which is what makes it feel less like a chatbot and more like thinking clearly out loud.
What is The Mirror journal?
The Mirror journal is the record your chats build over time. Every reflection is saved privately, so the app can surface mood patterns and recurring themes you would not spot in a single sitting, and hand you a plain-language summary of what has been changing.
Is The Mirror free?
Yes. The Mirror is free for individuals on the web and on iPhone. There is no ad network and nothing is sold, because the product is the reflection, not your data.
Do I need to sign up to try it?
No. You can start a reflection as a guest without creating an account, and only register if you want The Mirror to remember you across sessions.
Is The Mirror a replacement for therapy?
No, and it does not claim to be. The Mirror is a space to reflect between sessions or on your own, and it can export a summary as a PDF if you ever choose to share one with a clinician. If you are in crisis, our crisis resources page lists immediate human support.
How does The Mirror protect my privacy?
- Entries are encrypted, and your data stays owned by you.
- Nothing is shared with a clinician unless you explicitly opt in and export it.
- You can try it as a guest without handing over an account at all.
